Sisters (Masas)

Rebellious 13-year-old Anastasija and her younger sister Diana live together in an overcrowded Latvian orphanage. While Diana is excited by the news of their pending adoption by a wealthy American couple, Anastasija acts out in defiance, clinging to the hope that they can be reunited with their biological mother who has recently been released from prison.

Paulistas, a rural region in the state of Goiás, is struggling to survive in the Brazilian savanna. Its young people have left in a rural exodus; since 2014, no young people live in the region. Children return from cities to visit their parents and life on the farm.
